What is tempered glass?
The tempering process makes Duralex® glass so strong. It consists of rapidly cooling the entire glass product, which has been preheated to a temperature of approximately 700 °C. This treatment creates controlled stresses in the glass, improving most of its physical properties, i.e. resistance to mechanical stress and thermal shock (sudden change in temperature). This makes Duralex® glass at least 2.5 times more resistant to mechanical stress than standard glass. It withstands thermal shocks of at least 130 °C.
Why is tempering so important?
Duralex® tempering process improves resistance to mechanical stress and thermal shock. It offers safety, comfort and durability by increasing the lifespan of products. Tempered glass is safer, stronger and therefore more durable than standard glass. The tempering process ensures that the glass becomes even stronger and safer in the event of breakage (it breaks into small pieces). Stable tempering guarantees the quality of the products and their regular testing.
